Eolaithe Óga LHC

Comhghairdeas leis na scoláirí thuas, Emily, Ciara agus Kate, a ghlac páirt i gComórtas BT an Eolaí Óg i mBÁC an tseachtain seo caite agus lena múinteoir, Bn. Uí Shuibhne, a thaistil leo go dtí an comórtas.  Go raibh míle freisin leis na múinteoirí ar fad a thóg Bl. 3 agus Bl. 4 ina n-iomlán go dtí Taispeántas an Eolaí Óg an Aoine seo caite.  Ba thuras an-suimiúil é … agus n’fheadar cén splanc eolaíochta a spreagadh dá bharr.  Maith sibh ar fad!

Stoirm “Salsa” in ionad “Ophelia”

The very talented William Wade was supposed to come to us here at Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ to do a Salsa workshop in October but Storm Ophelia got in the way.  When he arrived on Dec 21st, Ms O’ Connor greeted him with the quip “At least there’s no storm today!” His response? “La tormenta Llegó, la tormenta soy yo! ” The storm has arrived. I am the storm!  And he meant it.  Bhí an-lá ag ár scoláirí Idirbhliana ag damhsa faoina stiúr … caithfear a rá gur thug sé blaiseadh den scoth dár gcailíní den Salsa agus dá chultúr dúchasach sa Chuba.

Ceolfhoireann Náisiúnta Rompu!

Comhghairdeas leis an triúr ceoltóirí iontacha thuas, go bhfuil áiteanna gnóthaithe acu i gCeolfhoireann Náisiúnta na n-Óg.  D’éirigh le Róisín Ní Dhonnabháin (Clairnéad), Heather de Náis (trumpa) agus Eibhlín Ní Chléirigh (veidhlín) áiteanna a bhaint amach i gCeolfhoireann Náisiúnta 2018.  While the rest of us are working off our Christmas Dinners and contemplating our New Year’s Resolutions, this trio will be working hard from Dec. 29th in Kilkenny at the National Youth Orchestra’s rehearsal week  – rehearsals that will culminate with their performance at the National Concert Hall on January 4th, 2018.  Go n-éirí go geal libh, a chailíní!

Junior Debating

Congratulations to all our 2nd year students who participated in the recent debating competition which took place here in school.  Our girls took on Ardscoil Rís and Ardscoil Mhuire.  One of the teams, Órlaith Ní Uiginn, Clodagh Ní Eachanna and Danielle Ní Ruanaidh, have progressed to the next round in January, with Órlaith Ní Uiginn being nominated “Best Speaker” on the day.  On the other team were Zuzanna Witomska, Deirdre Ní Naíonáin and Ellie Ní Chearmada, who did us proud.  Deirdre was nominated “Best Speaker” in that debate.  Well done to all who took part or indeed helped out on the day and a huge “Míle buíochas” to Ms. Chapple for giving so willingly of her time at this very busy time of year.

Choir + UL Orchestra’s Xmas Concert

Bhí oíche den scoth againn ag Ceolárás Ollscoil Luimní ar an Satharn 9ú Nollaig nuair a bhí ár gCór Scoile mar aíonna speisialta ag an gCeolchoirm Nollag a bhí ag Ceolfhoireann Ollscoil Luimní.  Chan an cór réimse álainn amhrán ar an oíche ón gceol clasaiceach go h-amhráin an lae inniu.  An added bonus on the night was the fact that so many of our past and present pupils, current members of the UL Orchestra, accompanied our chorists on stage. Buíochas ollmhór le Ms. Colgan, a rinne éacht chun an cór a chur ar an ardán arís tar éis cúpla seachtain thar a bheith gnóthach de scrúduithe, taithí oibre TY agus an iliomad imeachtaí seach-churaclaim eile.  Ár gceol tú!

Vótáil 100 don Seanad

Monica Ní Thoráin, Solas, had a great win recently when she was one of four Transition Year students chosen from Munster to be part of the final 16 who will debate in the Seanad in April.  The debate is part of a programme of cultural events taking place in 2018 to mark a century since women in Ireland were first given the right to vote and run in parliamentary elections.
