ActionAid Speech Writing competition

Ciara Ni Bhrian was one of 9 finalists who recited a speech in the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin on 21st of March.

The nine finalists emphatically delivered their speeches in front of a panel of judges including Hans Zomer (Head of Communications to the President of Ireland), Winifred Ikhine Akinyemi (Irish Aid), Rodney Rice (former RTE Broadcaster and ActionAid Chair) and Moira Leydon (Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland).

The annual ActionAid Speech Writing competition is funded by Irish Aid. Irish Aid funds an ActionAid Women’s Rights Programme in Ethiopia, Kenya and Nepal with a public engagement focus in Ireland to raise awareness about these global issues. ActionAid uses this funding to work with vulnerable communities in an effort to end early girl marriage, prevent gender based violence, gain land rights for women and help children receive an education.

We are very proud of Ciara for making it to the finals of this competition, and are very grateful to Ms. Chapple, her English teacher, for encouraging our girls here at Laurel Hill Coláiste to take part in this very important global conversation.

Feis Ceoil 2018

Bhí seachtain thar a bheith gnóthach ag an Roinn Ceoil anseo ar scoil.  Thaisteal an Cór Aireagail go dtí an Feis Ceoil i mBÁC ar an Máirt seo caite, an 13ú, le Ms. Colgan, a fhad is go raibh lá saor ag daltaí uile eile na scoile (rud nach raibh éasca in aon chor is dócha) ach gearán dá laghad níor chualamar  óna cailíní céanna thíos.

Tháinig siad sa dara h-áit sa chomórtas agus gan ach marc idir iad agus na buaiteoirí.  Bhí siad ar Nuacht TG4 an oíche chéanna agus ba dheas an rud é iad a chloisteáil i mbun canta agus i mbun agallaimh maidir le tábhacht an cheoil ina saolta scoile.

Inné, bhí comórtas mór eile, an uair seo ba é seal na Ceolfhoirne é agus arís – an gcreidfeá é? – ní raibh ach marc idir iad agus na buaiteoirí.  Bhí lá fada oibre acu agus níor chríochnaigh an comórtas go dtí tar éis a 7i.n.  Gan amhras, tar éis na h-oilitreachta traidisiúnta ar Dhún Droma, bhí sí ina meánoíche sular fhilleamar ar an mbaile.   Ní h-aon bhréag í a rá gur léir cúpla ceann codlatach timpeall na scoile inniu!  Maith sibh, a chailíní, agus míle buíochas le Ms. Colgan as ucht an ullmhúcháin agus na h-oibre ar fad!

Return to Storyland

Bhí dhá oíche fhíorspeisialta ag ár gcailíní ó Bhl. 4 + 5 a  bhí páirteach sa Creative Show ar an Déardaoin agus Aoine seo caite.  For the last few months, the ladies from The Daughters of Charity have been coming into our school at lunchtime on Fridays to practise for the show with our 4th and 5th year Choir girls.  The fruits of their hard work and the heart-warming friendships that have come from the partnership were clear in their  wonderful performances at the  Limetree Theatre.  The show, directed by Myles Breen, with movement pieces choreographed by Angie Smalis and Jane Toal, is a collaboration between members of Limerick Youth Theatre and service users from the Daughters of Charity Service and it is one of the highlights of our involvement with the wider community here in Limerick.  Buíochas mór leis na cailíní a bhí chomh mórchroích sin lena gcuid am agus le h-El Gleeson, a tháinig ar ais chugainn chun bheith páirteach sa tionscnamh- and without whom the ladies from The Daughters of Charity would most certainly have gone into tea-withdrawal.  Gan amhras, tá buíochas ollmhór tuillte ag Ms. Colgan, who just keeps on giving!  Go raibh míle maith agat!

Lá na Misiún 2018

Comhghairdeas le Bl. 6 a d’eagraigh lá den scoth do phobal na scoile ar an Aoine seo caite.  Bhain gach éinne sult is spraoi as an tráthnóna agus beidh Halla Bheinín mar ábhar díomá an tseachtain seo tar éis chlaochlú na hAoine!  Comhghairdeas freisin leis na cailíní uile a chuaigh ar an ardán, go h-áirithe na h-iarrathóirí ó Bhl. 1 do Miss Laurel Hill … Tori Ní Bhruadair a bhuaigh i mbliana le damhsa dochreidte Hip-hop.  Maith tú, a Tori.  Fógrófar amach anseo an méid airgid a gnóthaíodh dona carthanachtaí a bhí roghnaithe ag Bl. 6.  Maith sibh uilig!

Seachtain na Gaeilge Seolta!

Seoladh seachtain na Gaeilge an tseachtain seo agus tá an-chuid imeachtaí idir lámha ag an gCumann Gaelach lenár dteanga agus cultúr a cheiliúradh.  Tá idir chéilithe, thráth na gceisteanna, cheolchoirmeacha, thráthnóna spóirt, thoraíocht taisce srl beartaithe don choicís ghnóthach seo.  Míle buíochas le h-In. Ní Choileáin agus In. Ní Sheaghdha as ucht obair an Chumainn Ghaelaigh a stiúradh, le Beth Ní Chuileagáin Ní Riain (Cathaoirleach an Chumainn) agus Ailbhe Ní Bhroiméal (Leas-chathaoirleach an Chumainn a sheol imeachtaí na seachtaine go h-oifigiúil), leis na baill ar fad sa Chumann a bhíonn gníomhach i mbun chaomhnú ár n-oidhreachta agus leis na múinteoirí ar fad atá ag cabhrú le stiúradh na n-imeachtaí éagsúla.  Agus gan amhras, tréaslaímid go mór le daltaí uile na scoile atá ag tacú leis an gceiliúradh ríthábhachtach seo.  Maith sibh!
