LHC+De la Salle, Waterford

Bhí oíche cheoil den scoth againn i Séipéal Naomh Iosaif tráthnóna Dé Sathairn nuair a tháining Cór LHC, Ceolfhoireann LHC agus Cór De La Salle College, Waterford le chéile do cheolchoirm mhór na bliana.  Parents, staff, students and friends of Laurel Hill Coláiste, as well as families and friends from Waterford who travelled up for the occasion, were treated to an evening of musical delights.  The programme was varied and moved from largescale classical choral and instrumental works such as The Hallelujah Chorus to smaller settings of chamber music and solo performances in a variety of styles. The choir was accompanied on both piano and organ by Mr. Trevor Selby. One of the highlights of the evening was the world première performance of the Ballet music from Trevor Selby’s newly-composed opera The secret Garden, by the orchestra. It was an honour and a privilege to have been given the opportunity to perform this beautiful work. Rapturous applause and a standing ovation to Trevor followed. Indeed, there was more than one surprise on the night as Dr. Richard Hayes, of the English Department here at LHC, surprised many of us with his superb solo performance of Winter, Fire and Snow and You Raise Me Up.  Finally, it is fitting that the work and dedication of Br. Ben O’ Hanlon and Ms. Orla Colgan-Ahern, music teachers at De La Salle, Waterford and here at LHC be acknowledged.  Ms. Colgan has given up countless hours of her free time, preparing the girls for Saturday’s performance, and we are indebted to her for her dedication, generosity of spirit and for the tremendous service she gives to music in our school and city.  Gur fada buan í!

Ceolchoirm Childline 2016

Bhíomar chomh brodúil as na cailíní ar fad a ghlac páirt i gCeolchoirm Childline in Amharclann na Mílaoise in LIT oíche Aoine.  Chan sibh go h-álainn agus chuir sibh go mór leis an ócáid iontach seo a bhí eagraithe ag Music Generation ar mhaithe leis an tSeirbhís fhíor-thábhachtach, Childline.  Go raibh míle le Miss Colgan mar is gnáth as ucht na gcleachtaithe ar fad sa bhreis agus an táithí iontach seo a chur ar fáil do Chór na Scoile.

ABBA at the Abbey

LHC + Glenstal Abbey

Bhí seachtain thar a bheith drámatúil ag roinnt dár gcailíní Idirbhliana an tseachtain seo caite.  Work experience by day; on stage in Glenstal Abbey with “Mamma Mia” by night!  Léiriú thar a bheith taitneamhach a bhí ann. Buíochas ollmhór tuillte ag In. Ní Uaithne anseo i LHC a bhí ar an nguthán de shíor ag eagrú mionbhusanna agus gan amhras le foireann Glenstal Abbey a chuir fáilte fíorchaoin roimh ár gcailíní agus a chuir seó den scoth ar an ardán dúinn.  Go raibh míle le Sarah Molony (Director), Stacey Booth (Choreography) and Grace Fillip (Assistant Director and Stage Design) sa ghrianghraf thíos.  Huge thank you too to Michael Young (Musical Director) and Colm Mealy for graciously sharing all his photos of the performance with us.

Cork Pops

Bhí an-turas ag Bliain 1 ar an Déardaoin seo caite, ó thaobh an cheoil agus an chompánachais de, nuair a thug siad aghaidh ar Halla na Cathrach i gCorcaigh don Cork Pops Orchestra.  The Cork Pops Orchestra and their conductor Evelyn Grant celebrate 25 years in show business this year and the celebration was enjoyed by all our LHC newcomers.  Le cúpla aoi speisialta ar an lá – Keith Hanley, buaiteoir “The Voice” 2013 agus DJ Dashka a thaispeáin conas píosa ceoil a thógaint sraith ar shraith – b’ócáid iontach fhoghlama í.  Buíochas le Miss Colgan a d’eagraigh an turas agus leis an gCoiste Ceoil, a chabhraigh go mór agus a thaispeáin a ngrá don cheol do Bhl. 1 le canadh gan stad (ar uairibh!) ar an mbus.
