Stair na Sraithe Sóisearaí

Tá sé mar aidhm ag an staidéar ar an Stair sa tSraith Shóisearach cur ar chumas an scoláire an tuiscint choincheapúil is gá agus na scileanna disciplíneacha agus an t-eolas ar ábhar is gá a fhorbairt chun iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar rudaí a rinne daoine sa saol atá thart agus teacht ar thuiscint níos doimhne maidir le staid an duine. Gheobhaidh an scoláire amharc freisin ar an domhan, agus ar a áit sa domhan, ó pheirspictíocht stairiúil; agus tiocfaidh sé ar thuiscint faoin gcaoi ar mhúnlaigh daoine agus eachtraí an tsaoil atá thart saol na linne seo. Dírítear an staidéar ar thrí snáithe: Nádúr na Staire; Stair na hÉireann agus Stair na hEorpa agus an Domhan Mór.

Tháinig sonraíocht nua isteach le haghaidh Stair i scoileanna i mí Mheán Fómhair 2018.

Tá sé mar aidhm ag an tsonraíocht spéis agus dúil sa stair a fhorbairt sa scoláire agus cur ar a chumas luachanna agus meonta a mhúnlaíonn a thuairim maidir le daoine sa saol atá thart, lena n-áirítear meas ar oidhreacht agus ar a oidhreacht chultúrtha, agus ionbhá stairiúil a fhorbairt ann, áit a dtugtar breithiúnas ar dhaoine i gcomhthéacs na tréimhse inar mhair siad agus bunaithe ar luachanna an ama sin.

Forbróidh an scoláire feasacht dhisciplíneach trí iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar an saol atá caite ó pheirspictíochtaí difriúla; smaoineamh go criticiúil faoi shaincheisteanna, imeachtaí agus daoine ar a dtagann siad trasna; foinsí fianaise a scrúdú go hoibiachtúil agus breithiúnais a dhéanamh faoi thuairimí a léirítear, lena n-áirítear an cumas bolscaireacht a aithint.

I gcás scoláirí a bheidh ag dul isteach sa chéad bhliain i mí Mheán Fómhair 2018 nó ina dhiaidh sin beidh feidhm le sonraíocht Stair na Sraithe Sóisearaí. Is féidir féachaint air anseo.

Junior Cycle History: Course Overview

The specification for Junior Cycle History provides a framework for students to acquire the historical skills, conceptual understanding and substantive knowledge that lead to a sense of historical consciousness, whereby students can see the world and their place in it from an historical perspective. It has been designed for a minimum of 200 hours of timetabled student engagement across the three years of junior cycle.
The specification has three interconnected strands, each with a set of related elements:
Strand One: The nature of history; Strand Two: The history of Ireland; Strand Three: The history of Europe and the wider world.
